FOCUS

Kevin Langeree TANGLED LINES LEGENDS • Kevin Langeree truly needs no introduction. Multiple podium placer and 3x King of the Air winner, if you haven’t heard of him, well, quite frankly, you must be a complete newbie to the world of kiting (and if so, welcome!). Three years into co-founding kite brand Reedin, and as he lays down his competitive hat, we thought it was a good time for his fellow pro kiters to throw some questions at him.

Soma Bay and Abu Soma EGYPT

APPLETREE APELVIKEN

Rio de Janeiro • These stunning photos of iconic Rio nearly had us booking the next flight over there. It might normally be northeast Brazil that kiters head to, but as Reno Romeu shows, his home spot provides some good kiting conditions too, plus some fine scenery to admire when you’re out on the water. Reno tells us about the beautiful city where kiting started for him.

COLIN COLIN CARROLL’S LOVE LETTERS TO KITEBOARDING • Why You Should Care About The 2024 Olympics

AURA • It’s all too easy to let injuries get you down, but Carl Ferreira made the best of a bad situation. Check out his video AURA that documents his road to recovery in beautiful Cape Town.

COVER BOY • How could we not give Patri McLaughlin the cover for that insane shot at Jaws by Daniel Sullivan? Patri tells us how he managed to bag the biggest wave of his life, and possibly the biggest wave ever ridden in the world… Here we take a look at that wave and at some of the other beasts tackled that day…

OFF ROADING • Hydrofoiling enthusiasts Andrea Zust and Peer Schnyder from Switzerland headed to Boa Vista, Cape Verde for some winter sun and foiling fun. They wisely rented a 4x4, it being nigh on impossible to explore the island without one, and hit the sandy tracks that permeate out from the main town, Sal Rei.

MARK PATTISON • In a sea of change within the kite industry, one of the original players, Airush Kiteboarding has remained a constant, beating their own drum on product concepts and consistently bringing innovation to the market. We were stoked to manage to catch up with Kite Designer Mark Pattison who has been with Airush for 20 years and is known for keeping himself under-the-radar…

Gianmaria Coccolutto and James Carew • A few issues ago Axel Reese spoke to Women’s Freestyle World Champion, Mikaili Sol. This time he sat down with 2022 Freestyle World Champion, Gianmaria Coccoluto, and 2022 Kite-Surf World Champion, James Carew, to find out what it takes to be a winner. Time will tell whether they can hold on to their crowns for 2023…

Lunar Lander • Head into the mighty Andes in western Argentina and you’ll find a dam where the wind funnels down the mountains creating conditions for high-wind antics in a lunar-like landscape. Jett Bradshaw recently orbited round the globe to compete there for the second time at Cuesta del Viento Big Air, and this time bagged himself a podium place, and some lifelong friends.

FOLLOW THE CURRENT • Stig Hoefnagel and Helena Brochocka were invited by Prolimit to join their photoshoot in the Cape, South Africa. But the trip wasn’t just about kiting and photos. It also had a deeper objective – to learn more about the relationship between ocean currents...
