FOCUS

TANGLED LINES LEGENDS • Steven must be one of the most rounded riders on the planet, styling his way gracefully through any discipline he turns his hand to, whether he’s hanging upside down from his twintip or foil board, or carving down the face of a wave in Mauritius, where he currently is… He may have hung up his competition hat but we haven’t seen the last of one of CORE’s core riders just yet.

THE BAHAMAS

ELEVEIGHT COMMANDER AG PRO

Zandvoort • A lot of top riders hail from the Netherlands. Perhaps there’s something in the water. Stijn Mul, who came third at this year’s Lords of Tram Big Air event, tells us about Zandvoort, a long sandy stretch of coastline near Haarlem, where his kiting career started at a young age.

COLIN COLIN CARROLL’S LOVE LETTERS TO KITEBOARDING • Blankety Blank♡

GWEN ON TUTOUR • Gwen Le Tutour spent last summer driving the Cabrinha RV across the United States, throwing demos and parties along the way. He’s now in France, helping launch the European tour and passing on the batten to its new Tour Manager, Nico Le Bris. The two have hit up some of northern France’s best spots and are now headed to Spain, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands. Theo Demanez joined them to kick things off.

MAHALO! • Giel Vlugt headed to Hawaii last month to compete in the Patagonia Maui Kite & Wing Fest, a community kiteboarding event on Maui’s North Shore. Giel was suitably impressed by the event and by kitesurfing’s true heartland of Maui itself – warm temperatures, good kiting conditions, friendly locals, and delicious food – what’s not to like.

QATAR AIRWAYS STEP UP…

Under the Hood APPLETREE SURFBOARDS • From humble beginnings in a shed on their parent’s apple farm, Appletree are fast becoming a major player across the field of surf craft, producing a comprehensive range of kite surf boards for all conditions and riders, as well as spanning into foil and wing. Their innovative production methods and honest approach to board manufacture is capturing the attention of riders across all disciplines globally. We thought it best to catch up with them quickly before their outright world domination…

STUFF • we like the look of

WHEREVER I LAY MY HAT • Where is home if you’re often on the road traveling to kite events? Camille and Capucine Delannoy, although originally from France, currently call Brazil home, as their family all moved out there when Camille was 12 and Capucine seven. But a recent trip to Maui has seen it steal a little piece of Camille’s heart, as he told our editor Sarah, and their current, temporary home is Tarifa. Celtia Rebolledo Heil caught up with Capucine there to find out more about her competition mindset and preparation for the GKA Big Air World Championships. [Note as we were going to press: she won!]

LOST + FOUND • Joshua Emanuel made the most of a recent trip to Madagascar, where he helped judge at the country’s first kite festival, Festikite. He kited his heart out, explored beautiful beaches and forests with photographer Sacha, enjoyed the generous hospitality of the locals, and ran into a few of Madagascar’s unique animals… Busy times then.

YOUNG GUNS • Naish Team Europe was established to find young riders with talent and help them on their path to becoming a pro rider. Adriano Gazzoli from...
