FOCUS

South coast UK • Aaron Hadlow, Tom Court, Sam Light, Tom Bridge, Max Tullett and myself… Just some of the names that call the south coast of England home. It is no coincidence that these riders born and raised in the area have gone on to become household names in kiteboarding. The conditions down here are superb and it’s time to tell you about it.

APPLETREE KLOKHOUSE • 2022 Red Bull King of the Air, Lorenzo Casati, and equally talented younger brother Leonardo have recently started riding for Appletree Surfboards and spoke to us about the Klokhouse board they’re riding in the surf.

Head Up Again • Kiting is everything to GKA competitor Rita Arnaus, but when she suffered a bad knee injury earlier this year, it meant months off the water, and the rest of the year’s competition schedule missed out on. Rita has made a video, Head Up Again, about her recovery process, as part of ION’s “Write Your Own Chapter” Series. We heard more from Rita, and about the series from David Mariot, ION’s Marketing Manager.

HARNESS PARTY • Arthur Guillebert, winner of the recent GKA Freestyle World Cup in Brazil, headed somewhere decidedly colder earlier this year when he joined the Pallas Kiteweek, a snowkite event in Finland’s northern wilderness. Arthur, photographer Tomi Tähti, and event organizers Harri Rautava and Petri Sandström told us how the week went down.

LOST LUGGAGE • In the realm of kiting, the anticipation of an idyllic trip can be abruptly reshaped by the unexpected challenges that every kiter knows all too well. Often it’s the airport struggles with boardbags that can transform the dream trip into an unforeseen nightmare, as Pablo Amores was to find out on his visit to Dakhla…

THE CREATORS. FRED HOPE • Fred Hope is the foil wizard, performing technical tricks like “Around the World” before he’s even had a coffee in the morning. A rider for Slingshot from a young age, he has recently become more involved with product development for the brand. He has been working on their strutless kite, the UFO, a new version of their foiling board, the Hope Craft, and a brand-new bar, the Joystick, so we got thought it was a good time to find out more about him and the products.

10 Years of the Team Series • We love to catch up with brands when they reach an anniversary. It’s been 10 years since Airush Kiteboarding started their Team Series, featuring high performance products for their elite kiters like Alex Pastor and Bruna Kajiya, but also suitable for the everyday kiter who strives to be at the top of their game…

GKA KITE WORLD TOUR BRAZIL • The latest stops of the Qatar Airways GKA Kite World Tour took place in November in Cauipe, north-eastern Brazil. Three separate events were run, two of which saw the 2023 World Champions crowned – firstly in the Kite-Surf discipline at the fifth and final stop of the globe-trotting tour, and secondly in the Hydrofoil-Freestyle discipline, a one-off decider. The Freestyle-Kite event was the fourth call in that discipline before the tour headed to Fuwairit Kite Beach, Qatar, for the season finale to crown the World Champions.

STUFF we like the look of

The Real Stig • If you’ve seen the series Top Gear on the BBC then you’ll know all about The Stig: a professional racing driver who always wears his helmet so remains anonymous, and gets behind the wheel of test cars to put them through their paces. Sharing his name with the...
